Fixed – A single PayPal payment can no longer be recorded as paid on two WooCommerce orders. When a checkout is submitted again and WooCommerce files it as a fresh order, the plugin updates the shopper’s already-approved PayPal order to point at that fresh order before charging it. If PayPal rejected that update, the charge still went ahead: the new order was marked Processing by the checkout while the original order was marked Processing by PayPal’s payment notification, for one payment. Every charge is now preceded by a check, against PayPal’s own record, that the PayPal order identifies the order being paid and carries its exact amount and currency; if it does not, the payment is not taken and the shopper is asked to try again.
Fixed – The cause of those rejected updates. The purchase reference the plugin keeps in the shopper’s session could be lost mid-checkout, producing an update PayPal cannot apply. The reference is now read back from the PayPal order itself whenever the session no longer holds it, so the checkout completes normally.
Improved – As a final safeguard, a PayPal capture that is already recorded as the payment for one order will never mark a second order as paid. At checkout such an order is placed on hold with a note naming the order that holds the payment, and a PayPal notification that points at a second order is recorded as a note on it and otherwise ignored.
Verified – Tested and fully compatible with WordPress 7.1.3 and WooComme
